About the event
Friday, May 5th, is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Awareness Day.
MMIWG2S stands for "Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People." It is a term used to describe the epidemic in Canada and the US, where a disproportionately high number of Indigenous women and girls have gone missing or have been murdered. The exact number of MMIWG cases is impossible to determine as many are not reported or properly documented.
What can you do? Wear red this Friday, May 5th, to raise awareness about MMIWG, support justice and healing initiatives in Indigenous communities, and try to understand the underlying issues leading to the higher-than-average violence rate against Indigenous people.
